Agriculture Environment and Wildlife Fund (AEWF)

The Agriculture Environment & Wildlife Fund (AEWF) provides funding assistance to resolve key agriculture-environment issues. The fund is intended to further the environmental sustainability of the agri-food sector in British Columbia while enhancing the viability of the industry.

This program recognizes the important and essential role that producers play in environmental stewardship and in evaluating and promoting the adoption of conservation practices

Key Objectives

To reduce or mitigate agricultural impacts on environmental values while contributing to the economic sustainability of the agricultural industry
 
To reduce or mitigate impacts of wildlife on the economic viability of agricultural operations while recognizing the intrinsic value of wildlife to British Columbians

Focus Areas

Demonstration & Adoption of Stewardship Practices

Encourage the development, use, and evaluation of agricultural practices and technologies that sustain soil productivity and water quality, and protect fisheries and wildlife resources

Collaborative Area Planning

Support area planning and activities that promote environmental conservation and enhancement, agriculture growth and development or wildlife impact mitigation

Research

Support projects that will expand our current understanding of environmentally sustainable agricultural practices and agriculture-wildlife interactions

Reduction of Wildlife Impacts

Support activities that increase compatibility between agriculture and wildlife and help farmers and ranchers with the costs of using mitigation measures to reduce wildlife-related impacts
 
Support regional and provincial processes that involve developing options for damage prevention and/or compensation
 
Education & Awareness
 
Increase producer and public knowledge and understanding of agricultural and environmental sustainability issues

Who can apply?
           
Applications will generally be accepted from farm organizations or other groups with strong links to the agricultural community.
 
How to apply
 
Applicants must provide information about their organization, a description of the objectives and costs of the project, and a summary of how the project will benefit both agriculture and the environment. See AEWF Documents below for the AEWF Strategic Plan and detailed information for applicants.
 
Approval process
 
Proposals will be reviewed by a committee of producers and representatives from the funding agencies. All proposals will be evaluated based on the following key criteria:
 
· linkage to environmental sustainability or wildlife-agriculture conflict reduction
· support from related agencies and organizations
 
 
 
Proposals may be given approval based on the confirmed participation of other funding partners identified in the application.
